Our Four Causes

Our Causes – Section 2: Crisis Context – Volunteers Together

The Crisis in Lebanon

Since 2019, Lebanon has faced one of the worst economic collapses in modern history.

Families have lost their savings. Salaries can’t cover basic needs. Parents face impossible choices: education or food, medication or rent.

Over 70% of Lebanese families now struggle to afford food, healthcare, education, and housing.

Our four causes aren’t just programs—they’re lifelines providing the fundamental support families need to survive with dignity.

Education

The Challenge

Since 2019, Lebanon has been grappling with one of the hardest financial crises in history. With most families losing their savings to the banks, and most salaries still below the recovery margin, many parents have been struggling to keep their children in schools or universities.

Tuition fees that were once manageable have become impossible burdens. Talented students face the heartbreaking reality of dropping out mid-year, watching their dreams of education slip away due to circumstances beyond their control.

Our Solution

Volunteers Together assesses each case carefully, and finances the tuition directly with the educational institute at hand to ensure a continued education for children of families unable to keep up with these costs.

  • Students are high-potential learners selected in liaison with their educational institution
  • Selection based on both financial need and academic achievement
  • Tuition paid directly to schools and universities
  • Ongoing monitoring of academic progress

Investing in Lebanon’s Future

Every student we support represents not just an individual success story, but an investment in Lebanon’s future. These are tomorrow’s doctors, engineers, teachers, and leaders.

By ensuring that financial hardship doesn’t prevent academic excellence, we’re building a generation equipped to rebuild and strengthen their communities when the crisis passes.

Food Security

The Challenge

With more than 50% of the Lebanese population affected by the economic crisis and losing their purchasing power for bare basics, malnutrition has become increasingly witnessed among these vulnerable groups.

Children go to school with close to nothing in their lunchboxes, and parents report skipping on common fruits and vegetables to minimize their grocery bill. Healthy nutrition has become a luxury many families simply cannot afford.

Our Solution

A door-to-door assessment by Volunteers Together has resulted in hundreds of verified families registered on our food assistance list. These families benefit from a monthly distribution drive of healthy food parcels and fresh produce from local farmers.

  • Monthly “Fruits and Vegetables Distribution Drive”
  • Fresh produce sourced from local farmers
  • Hand-delivered by volunteers to registered families
  • Ongoing household food security monitoring

Fighting Malnutrition with Dignity

Access to nutritious food is a basic human right. Our monthly distribution ensures families receive fresh, healthy produce—not processed food or handouts, but the same quality fruits and vegetables they would buy themselves.

By partnering with local farmers, we also support Lebanon’s agricultural sector while providing families with the nutrition they need to stay healthy and strong.

Healthcare Section WITH Counters – Volunteers Together

Healthcare

The Challenge

As thousands of individuals are denied essential treatment for lack of cash or insurance coverage, Lebanon’s healthcare system has become increasingly inaccessible to those who need it most.

Life-saving medications go unpurchased. Chronic illnesses worsen without treatment. Hospital visits become impossible luxuries. Families face impossible choices between medical care and other basic necessities.

Our Solution

Our Healthcare Program aims to ensure necessary healthcare for ill individuals wherever it is inaccessible. All medical cases are investigated and verified by our team and medical partners, sponsoring medication or hospitalization as necessary.

  • Partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers
  • Medical consultations all the way to treatments
  • Direct payment to pharmacies and hospitals
  • Case-by-case verification and assessment

Healthcare is a Human Right

No one should face the choice between life-saving treatment and feeding their family. Through partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers, we bridge the gap between medical need and financial reality.

From routine medications for chronic conditions to emergency hospitalization, we ensure that illness doesn’t become a death sentence for those who simply cannot afford care.

Housing Section WITH Counters – Volunteers Together

Housing

The Challenge

With an alarming percentage of the Lebanese population living below the poverty line, many families are struggling to keep a roof over their heads. Rent that once consumed a manageable portion of income now represents an impossible burden.

Families face eviction notices. Children lose the stability of a permanent home. The threat of homelessness becomes a daily reality, adding immense stress to families already struggling with economic hardship.

Our Solution

Volunteers Together helps financially strained households cover their rental fees, partially or in full, fostering a sense of stability and security and allowing them to maintain a dignified living environment.

  • Preventive measures to address housing challenges early
  • Direct payment to landlords (partial or full coverage)
  • Personalized case management and support services
  • Pathways to regain financial stability and self-sufficiency

A Safe Home is Everything

Stable housing isn’t just shelter—it’s the foundation upon which families can rebuild their lives. Without the constant fear of eviction, parents can focus on finding employment, children can concentrate on school, and families can maintain their dignity.

Through direct payment to landlords and ongoing case management, we don’t just prevent homelessness—we create pathways back to self-sufficiency and break the cycle of housing insecurity.
